The Cuteness! Marjorie Poses With Her Prize From the "Where Is This Contest" Mystery Photo

We have been doing the "Where Is This?" Mystery Photo contest for a few years now, and this is the first time that the donor of a prize from the Prize Bag of awesome prizes has taken a picture with the winner! This month, Marjorie took a few guesses as to where the mystery photo was taken - and what it was - and correctly identified it as the chair at the door of Dogwood!

SallyeAnder, located right here in Beacon in the building of Two Way Brewing and BCAP, donated the prize of a Summer Basket of Sallye Sunshine Soap, Gardener's Hand Soap, No Bite Me Cream, No Bite Me Bar, and Lakeshore Soap. Yummy! The winner of this week's "Where Is This?" photo contest is Chris Sanders who won a prize from Blackbird Attic. Chris answered correctly that the mystery photo was taken at Vogel Pharmacy on Main Street. This photo is of the vintage wallpaper found behind the waiting area. The wallpaper is illustrations of old time-y beakers and devices for measuring and cooking medicine. Congratulations, Chris!

The latest Where Is This contest is still open - we do not have a winner yet. I did a drive-by just to be sure the picture taken was still there, and it is. However, it wasn't lit up. Maybe they only light it up on the weekend (but it's so cool...I vote for it being lit up all the time!) Sooo...I'll give you a few more hints.


  • Karen of echo boutique and Charlotte and Claire of Gatehouse Realty should know where this is. Especially Karen, since echo is open until 6pm most nights, so the chances of her walking by are good.
  • Look closely at the picture. Notice the details. This will help you form what the light could be mounted on, which would be a great help.
  • Or, just drive down Main Street at night, and maybe on a weekend night, since on a Thursday night it was not lit up.

Put your thinking caps on, Beaconites! The "Where is This in Beacon" contest is back for Wednesday afternoons! The pictures are going to get trickier because the prize bag just grew. That's what I was doing - making a proper logo page for those Beacon businesses who are providing prizes. The prizes are great, and the visual challenges even better, as I see how long I can stump you with an obscure picture of something you look at all the time here in Beacon - or around the Hudson Valley where you may have day tripped. The "Where Is This?" Contest is a fun guessing game of locations in Beacon, where the winner is awarded a small prize from a Beacon shop in or near Main Street. Katie is out and about quite a lot in Beacon, pushing a stroller, shopping, working at coffee shops, you name it. On these outings, she snags obscure pictures of commonly seen locations in Beacon, NY 12508. Beaconites are challenged to guess where the picture was taken, and the first right answer wins the prize. Beaconites have enjoyed this contest so much, they even visit past pictures to test their knowledge just for fun. The contest was created to help people notice what they drive or walk by all of the time, but may not notice. And, to just feel that "I know it!" moment.

To be included in the grab bag of prizes for the "Where Is This?" Contest is free for local shops in Beacon. A new contest is posted at least one week apart, and if a good picture was taken. People find out about a new contest by way of their RSS feeds (and sometimes guess before it's shared!), BeaconCitizen, Facebook and Twitter.
