ICE In Beacon...Things To Do! 6/22/2025

This is a strange blend, but yesterday was a strange day…

Before we get into it, ICE struck in Beacon yesterday (Friday, June 20, 2025), with a morning raid on North Elm Street in what appears to be a targeted nabbing. Two weeks ago, ALBB submitted a FOIL request to find out if DHS had tried to partner with the City of Beacon on immigration issues, and the City of Beacon said they had no such requests. Yesterday, after multiple residents contacted Beacon's Mayor Kyriacou about the person who was taken in the raid, the Mayor issued a statement saying that the City of Beacon, nor the Beacon Police, had any knowledge of the raid, which seemed to have included at least one person wearing an FBI vest among otherwise masked men in unmarked vehicles, parked in ways to block the street as they targeted the person in a house. Raids have been going on around Beacon, such as at Walmart in Fishkill and in other municipalities. This is the first one (that ALBB knows of) in a residential neighborhood in Beacon. There may be more to come. Last night, a meeting of Beacon residents convened to form an action plan of how to identify possible ICE employees, issue alerts about locations, and inform people of their rights, in case broadcasting those rights during a time of duress may delay a kidnapping situation. This morning, before finishing this newsletter, ICE was seen again on North Elm and Oak Streets.
