BACK TO SCHOOL BLOCK PARTY
Day: Saturday, August 21, 2021
Time: 12pm - 4pm
Location: South Avenue Park
Supporting parents and students in preparing for the start of the new school year!
Community Leaders - Parents - Teachers - Administrators,
As you know, back to school is one of the most stressful times of the year for both students and parents.
In effort to support Beacon families, please join I Am Beacon for the Annual Back to School Block Party designed to help jump-start planning and preparation for the upcoming school year.
What ways can your School/PTA/PTO/Organization/Business be involved?
Set Up a Booth: We are offering space (free of charge) to all groups, community organizations and businesses. This event will allow your organization to engage students/parents in a fun environment.
Donate supplies (i.e. pens/pencils etc) or materials (i.e. literature, tips & tricks) to be included in the Back to School "Starter Kit" back packs that will be handed out to the first 100 students.
Help sponsor the event or donate raffle items in support of "Class in a Bag" which provides new back packs and school supplies to local students in need.
Spread the word: Tell your network about the event to help us reach the most students possible.
If you are interested in participating, click here to register your organization. For more information or questions, please reach out to Brooke directly at 845.505.6820 or iambeacon.brooke@gmail.com
If you are traveling from afar, make a day trip or stay the weekend in Beacon! There are many wonderful things to do, including, The NFP Studio Exclusives Sample Sale that is happening NOW! It is real and it is no joke!
NFP offers convertible knitwear rooted in a foundation of sculptural, timeless forms. Designer, Gail Travis, resides between her studio in Los Angeles, CA, and Beacon, NY! Beacon is fortunate to have NFP localized in Beacon, even though they are a coveted fashion brand popular in NYC and larger markets. Located for years next to Joe’s Irish Pub, they paid homage to the pub when it closed and have been hosting their sample sale there.
Styles are selling out FAST! They are open every day from 10-5 up until their last day on 2/28. Run, don’t walk!
“NFP is a vision that I have grown into a collection of wearable art that allows each person a blank canvas to create their own individual style, I challenge my self to continue the evolution of NFP to offer you, my loyal customers and friends, an endless supply of moldable forms - ENJOY!”
As we enter the period of reopening, people are anxious to get back to normal life, however, we must keep in mind that social distancing rules and safety measures are still in effect per the state of New York.
If you’re hosting an event in person, how will you be marking social distancing and mask wearing? How will you be self-enforcing compliance from your event attendees? If you have an upcoming event that you might want to share, you can find more info HERE.
*Please note, if this event is in person, we cannot guarantee a listing of it, if we think the social distancing compliance is not enough, or being taken seriously.

They searched up and down the Hudson Valley to find the perfect spot, and selected Beacon and A Little Beacon Space! Come out and give them a warm retail welcome.
The young entrepreneurial group calls this show “PIECES,” and they normally only sell on social media platforms that the young people know about.
The Tony Hawk skateboarding video game is playing in the corner, and clothes are hanging from the ceiling! Come in for your T-shirt fix and grow your sneaker collection.

A Little Beacon Blog has partnered with Kim Beller, founder of The PEACE Project, an interactive art project to spread peace, equality, and love in the community and across the world.
“In December 2016 I began folding peace cranes with the community in Wilmington, NC, where I lived,” says Kim. “After completing the folding of 1,000 origami peace cranes, I strung the peace cranes and they were hosted by different businesses and restaurants in and around Wilmington to promote peace, love and equality. Previously, I organized the folding of 1,000 cranes with my daughter’s school, with a home for autistic children, and for my mom during her battle with cancer (her cranes hang in the Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington). This event in Beacon will be my fifth time folding 1,000 cranes for peace!”
One thousand peace cranes will be folded, and strung into strands of 100 each, and they will be hosted by different businesses and restaurants in the Hudson Valley to promote Peace - Equality - Love.
All are welcome to this free community event to fold origami peace cranes. No experience is needed - Kim will guide you through the folding process and provide origami paper. Please bring a friend!

Going on now for one day only, the Artisan Holiday Pop-Up Shop at A Little Beacon Space! Most of these artisans are not in stores, so you can only find them during pop-up occasions such as this. Organized by Susan Labodin, designer and founder of Allegory, this pop-up shop features five talents: the painter Anna West, the ceramics artist MossPocket, the fabric enthusiast reklaimed, and the maker of fun dog collars (she brought the ones that you can color!) Teller Hill.
This pop-up shop is extra special because one of the artists, Kat Stoutenborough of reklaimed, was an original pop-up shop creator here in Beacon. Some of you may remember Cherry Bomb, which exploded into Zora Dora's for at least two years during the winter season (the spot has been occupied by different pop-ups ever since).
Kat's creation inspired A Little Beacon Blog to incorporate pop-up shops into our business model when we took the office space on Main Street in the Telephone Building. Kat's ability to bring dozens of artists together in a retail community during the winter months was exceptional, and created lasting relationships.
ALREADY SHOPPED
Not gonna lie... we have already shopped this pop-up and did take home a few spoons - but left some for you! The reklaimed pins are flying off her table, Teller Hill's adult-coloring dog collars are a no-brainer for the dog owner on your gift list!

First Floor, First Door
WHEN: Saturday, November 10
TIME: 11 am to 9 pm
One day only!
Come for shopping PLUS video games in the morning, Pokémon giveaways in the afternoon, trivia at 6 pm! Door prizes and giveaways ALL DAY!
If you want to hear the original Mario Bros. video-game music - and play it on an old-school controller - then you will love this Pop-Up Shop! Inspired by vintage ‘90s, Amanda (pictured here, sporting her jean jacket she customized last night) and her crew have outdone themselves in the setup of the shop in a tiny amount of time.
Find mini-blue holiday trees, ornaments, the real Rambo on a gym bag, and even an NSYNC kids-size mini backpack. Oh, don't worry, Britney, we haven’t forgotten about you - you've got a quote on a bottle opener: "Hit me baby one more time" that could hang on a wall.
PS: If you love this stuff, you will also love one of Beacon's newest shops, The Underground Beacon, further down Main Street toward the mountain, at 462 Main Street. Just hail the free Beacon blue bus from anywhere and let it whisk you down there! See where else you can shop in A Little Beacon Blog's Shopping Guide.
